How to Save Money When Travelling by Train from London to Parts of Europe

Travelling by train from London to any part of Europe, such as Granada, Spain, can be expensive. But there are ways to save money and still travel comfortably.

Get Eurail passes

Doing so is much more affordable than buying individual tickets. It also offers more flexibility and a better price. Get a pass from the Eurail website so you can take advantage of additional discounts on ferries or buses.

Just remember that you still need to make reservations and pay for additional fees when boarding certain trains.

Book individual train tickets

There are instances, however, when buying individual tickets for every destination where you change trains will save you more money. Such is the case when travelling from London to Granada.

A Eurostar ticket in different destinations is more practical and affordable.

The downside is that you will be transferring from one train to another. The upside is that you get to visit different travel destinations before you reach the final one.

  • To reach Granada, book a Eurostar ticket from London to Paris’s Gare du Nord International station.
  • Take the Rail Europe from Paris to Madrid. Be sure to check if a transfer train is required between the two cities. An Elipso’s train hotel is highly recommended for an overnight trip.
  • Take the Altaria train from Madrid to Granada.

When travelling by train, it is important to determine whether one pass for all destinations is better and cheaper than individual tickets for every train station you pass through. Whichever you choose, you can pay with a credit card.
