Tips For Applying For Tier 5 Youth Mobility Scheme

Are you contemplating applying for the Tier 5 Youth Mobility Scheme? This scheme is designed for those aged between 18 and 30 years old who wish to live and work in the UK for a period of up to two years. In order to qualify you must possess a minimum of £1,890 in savings and you must be from one of the following countries:

Australia

Canada

Japan

Monaco

New Zealand

Hong Kong

Republic of Korea

Taiwan

Please note that those seeking to apply from Hong Kong, the Republic of Korea or Taiwan will require sponsorship.

It is possible to apply for the Tier 5 Youth Mobility visa up to three months prior to your planned arrival date in the UK. It will generally take around three weeks for the authorities to make a decision on your visa. An application fee of £225 is in place and there is also a healthcare surcharge, the cost of which varies depending on your particular circumstances. More information on this can be found on the UK government’s website.

This scheme allows you to work, study or set up as self-employed in the UK. Please note that in the case of the latter, you must be operating from rented premises with no employees and your equipment cannot be worth more than £5,000. This scheme does not permit you to work in a professional sporting capacity or as a doctor or dentist in training. You will not be able to extend your stay past the two year mark and you will also not be permitted to apply for public funds. Finally, you can’t bring family members over on your own application; they’ll have to lodge their own applications if they want to come with you.
